Every Tug Of War Has A Winner

…and today it was Sage.

She won over the power of the past.

It took me about half an hour again today, just hanging out with her and introducing the halter slowly again. She seemed wary, but I felt confident and determined. Not pushy, just determined to take her as far as she would let me.

And she let me take her all the way to closing the buckle on that halter. I was thrilled as she stood there and let me finish the buckle; it was almost a surreal moment. She was actually really calm, but she didn’t want me to do much with her. I led her around and all was fine; I was being careful not to tug on the halter, and we just circled around a bit in her pasture with her following me at will by my side.

She was nervous when I went to unbuckle the halter – not something I expected – but a few minutes later that happened, too, the slow releasing of the buckle and the fear.

I got a sense that this was all kind of tiring for her, so I let her be and will give her a break for a couple of days. This horse really worked hard to overcome whatever was in that bodymind of hers.

Tomorrow, May 21st, is her 10th birthday, but today it was me who got the gift.
